CodeRage II - will you go?#

Well, Hadi has written about it already, he was as fast as they come. And not much more can be said, than Hadi has written already. However, I just want to throw my voice in there as well. I was quiet surprised when I read about the registration fee of 150 USD for participating in the conference, if you are not using one the current products. Well, I missed CodeRage last year, because I had other things on my hands to do, but same as Hadi, I wont attend this year either.

Why? Well, for starters, I prefer real life conferences as well. I always dreamed about attending some BorCon (was not in my budget back then) or a real life CodeRage now. As far as I heard, they probably will never happen again and I have to console myself with the EuroDevCon, which is fine. However, a virtual conference just does not have this same flair and for me it is all about meeting the people in person, get to know them, talk a little about whatever one likes, go out for a nice dinner, have fun with all those guys in the lobby and maybe attending a few sessions. But sitting in front of my laptop or computer just does not cut it.

So Hadi, what are you doing end of November? Like to meet? *g*

We can meet up for some Gühwein and sausages anywhere in Germany :) I love visiting Frankfurt near Christmas time.

When you love Frankfurt during Christmas time, how much would you love Munich - though Frankfurt would be just fine, too. Let's see :)

I'm from Canada but would love to join. I have to agree with a lot that had been said here. I had many friends who would attend the BorCon and come back telling us all the great things that happen. This was the big carrot that was put out in front of staff. This was the yearly xmas gift from the company if you were good.

Many years ago before Delphi, I use to develop in Foxpro. I learn the most about the language while attending a FoxTech conference and not just at the conference but at dinner in the evening with the speakers and fellow developers. I came back from the Foxtech and rewrote my application some best practices that I saw there. The application is still being use 8 years later as it is stable. Without the information that I learn their, the application may have been toss out along time ago.

I believe that Codegear has to get back to their roots. Our company is looking to move away from Delphi because of all the baggage that Borland/Codegear has had over the pass few years. Again by asking their customers to pay to see the stuff that should be toss in front of anyone who is willing to "look and listen" and say "MY GOD IS THAT EVER FRIKING COOL. WE HAVE TO PUT THAT INTO OUR PRODUCT". I love the Codegear line of products and personally purchases the 3rd Rail IDE but this might be the last product from Codegear that I pick up.

Just my 2 cents

I'm from Canada too. I'll definitely "attend" Code Rage II. It seems to be free for owners of recent Codegear products (a fact that doesn't seem to be so well publicized). Going to a real seminar would be better but it'd be so expensive (I've never been). I would've been quite disappointed to need to pay to attend.

I won't be going. I really enjoyed the last one, but as a D2006 owner, I will need to pay to attend. If I could afford to pay 150 bucks ($US I imagine) to turn up, then I could probably justify being a current product owner too :-(. Unfortunatly for me neither of these are true.

I'm happy to have a beer with other Delphites in Tassie (Aus) though! Hell, I could fly to Melbourne and back for less then that.

I think it is a crying shame. I would love to attend. Additionally I loved being able to tell non Delphi/BCB/Interbase etc users etc to come along and see how cool it is. CodeGear are IMHO thowing away a fantastic oportunity to preach to all, not just the (already) faithful.

Finaly, showing their wares to existing users would be an enticement to upgrade, not a pre-requisite to attending. If you want D4 users to upgrade, show them what is available!

I would hope that there will be special offers during the conference, like there was last year, which would effectively rebate the price of admission to anyone who choses to purchase/upgrade. However by then it is already too late as many will have elected not to go at all. Halving the audience seems like a good way to half the prospective customers...

I guess only CodeGear have any idea what the ratio of current customers to non customers was last year. #shrug#.

Well I purchased CDS 2007, so I'm good for free, but I think $25 would have been more reasonable than $150 for non-recent purchasers. And with a session called "reasons to upgrade from Delphi 7", who would pay $150 to find that out? Nobody is going to spend $150 to find that out. So, just do that as a free session, and make the rest a reasonable fee, which should be a lot less than $150. If I was attending a day-long seminar where they had to rent space at a hotel, and lunch came with it, then maybe $150 is reasonable.

I'm lucky because I live in a city where there is a delphi user group. So pub-grub and stitch-and-bitch sessions are easy to come by. I think a web seminar series is a great idea. And I think it is good to give the guys who bought CDS 2007, and are thus the ones keeping CodeGear alive, at the front of the Queue. But after all those have made their requests, the remaining slots should be filled up cheaply, much less than $150. Maybe Nick will hear the cries and lower the price if the $150 slots don't "sell". Otherwise, he's 100% right on to let it fill up with only the (Recently) paying customers.

Great news!

Now I WILL be going, because it is free for all and sundry to attend :-)
